The Genetic Age is often considered barbaric, with its clone armies and eco-terror and robotic wars and social inequality; however, it needs to be understood that it was the time when first steps towards true transhumanity were taken. Many individuals were modifying their or their descendants' bodies not because they had to, but because they wanted to. Thanks to the advancement in both genetics and nanotechnology, people could flourish in environments that would otherwise be hostile, like oceans or the underground. The gains for the society were enormous and too complex to list, but the most important would be: conquerring most health issues, decreasing costs of industry efforts, and improving quality of life.
