As the Genetic Age dawned on the humanity, the military was, as usual, the first ones to grab at the new opportunities the new technologies offered. In many societies there were significant obstacles that prevented the army from violating nature too much, but this was not always the case; certain regimes started mass-production of Clones at roughly the same time, which threatened the balance of power. The clones (for technical reasons, always female) were bio-engineered soldiers who could be mass-produced, pharmacologically controlled, and were very cheap to maintain, and had no human rights nor behavioural limitations. An individual clone wasn't in fact any better than an ordinary human soldier, but in large numbers they proved to be brutally effective. Their creation and use also had a tremendous impact on the world's culture, bringing yet another future shock to the people.
