When androids were first introduced to the human society, they prove to be useful servants and companions, but they weren't exactly designed for combat - this domain was reserved for other AIs that were far better suited to the task, like Assault Droids. While nobody believed androids to possess any viable combat proficiency, it didn't stop military command during the siege of Rio de Janeiro to confiscate all functional androids within the city, overrun their anti-violence programming, and strengthen defense lines with their resilient bodies. Their combat performance was not only good enough to withstand the assaulting USA forces, but also to become standard emergency resource for many nations who suffered fate similar to Brasil. Even after androids became sentient and free, forming all-android defense units was still practised in many corners of the world, whenever situation got out of hand. Especially since most humans in the Genetic Age were rather physically unfit for combat.
