Although the War Walker design prove to be very successful, its size and weight were imposing certain restrictions on its use. Making a smaller, more agile version of battlebot was difficult however, as it was impossible for such a light frame to support a human pilot. This problem was finally overcome thanks to the continuous development of military hardware and software, including sophisticated (for their time anyway) AI subroutines. Assault Droid was not only fully automatic, but it was also capable of coordinating its actions with other units on the battlefield to a degree where its cybernetic brain was no longer a liability. Moreover, its nearly unlimited power supply allowed for new types of tactics - for example, waiting in cover for indefinite time was not a problem for such units.
