Once introduced into democratic society, legal professionals never went out of style, no matter how technology marched on. Still, constant development of intelligent software combined with the ever-growing communication matrix caused a shift in legal proceedings where more and more data was processed by whole think tanks instead of individual people. However, although such "virtual lawyer" systems did the actual job, they still needed to gather initial data on behalf of their clients. This was the task of the Investigators: humans, cyborgs and later also Artificial Intelligences who represented law firms as information gathererers, detectives and "terminals". Such people were often idolised by the media who painted them as heroes: smart, well-prepared and often stretching the boundaries of the law to complete their job.
