The Colossus of Rhodos was a statue of Helios, one of the titans, completed around 280 BC to celebrate the end of the unsuccessful siege of the island by Cyprus forces. It was built on a 15 metre high marble pedestal and the statue itself was over 30 metres tall, built from bronze over iron construction. Even after its collapse during earthquake, the Colossus was so impressive that after hundreds of years people were still visiting Rhodos only to see its remains.
